Physics solved the wrong problem.
For a century, it built increasingly precise descriptions of separate things, particles, forces, fields, objects, and then spent just as long trying to explain how those separate things mysteriously influence each other.
Entanglement. Non-locality. Synchronicity. Consciousness.
David Bohm looked at the same evidence and asked a different question.
What if the separation is the illusion, and the connection is what’s actually fundamental?
That question produced one of the most coherent descriptions of reality in the history of physics. Here’s how it works.
Bohm described reality operating in two simultaneous orders.
The Explicate Order: the unfolded world. Separate objects. Distinct bodies. Everything appears divided, independent. What most people think of as reality.
The Implicate Order: the enfolded whole. Everything remains connected. The deeper structure where separation doesn’t exist. Not somewhere else, the foundation from which the explicate continuously unfolds.
The distinction matters because most physics treats the explicate as fundamental, then struggles to explain why separate things behave as if connected. Bohm reversed it. Connection is primary. Separation is what needs explaining, and it’s explained as a surface phenomenon while the implicate maintains unity beneath it.
His analogy: a hologram. Cut it in half, each piece still contains the whole image. Every fragment holds the complete pattern. Reality works this way. Every point contains information about the whole. Separation exists only at the surface.
Understanding this produces three shifts.
First: separation is derivative, not fundamental. Connection exists first. Division appears later, at the explicate level.
Second: both orders operate simultaneously, always. The implicate doesn’t stop when things unfold. It continues as the living foundation while the explicate manifests particular forms.
Third: the implicate is more primary. The explicate is one possible unfolding of deeper patterns. Many unfoldings are possible. The one that appears is not the only one that exists.
Bohm wasn’t writing philosophy. He was explaining the physics behind phenomena that the explicate only model cannot account for.
Quantum entanglement, particles affecting each other instantly across distance. Standard physics struggles with this. Bohm’s answer: the particles were never separate in the implicate order. They only appear separate when observed in the explicate. No mysterious transmission. The unity was always there.
Two people think of each other, then one calls. Explicate explanation: coincidence. Bohm’s explanation: two minds accessing the same implicate field where connection already exists. The explicate, separate bodies, separate locations, makes it appear random. The structure underneath it doesn’t.
Tesla designed complete inventions in mind before building them. He worked in the implicate order first, perfecting the pattern there, then letting it unfold into explicate form. No trial and error in the physical because the work was already complete at the deeper level.
This is the pattern: the implicate is where everything connects. The explicate is where that connection manifests as particular, apparently separate forms.
If both orders operate simultaneously, intention works in the implicate before manifesting in the explicate.
Not because thoughts magically influence distant matter. Because consciousness operates at the level where everything already connects. Change in the implicate unfolds into the explicate. The work happens at the deeper level first. Physical manifestation follows.
This is why visualization works when it works. Why setting clear intention before action changes outcomes. The implicate level is where patterns take shape. The explicate is where they appear.
Tesla didn’t visualize it as a technique to boost confidence. He worked directly in the implicate order until the pattern was complete. Then the explicate manifestation was inevitable, just unfolding what already existed.
When you experience synchronicity, needing information that suddenly arrives, setting an intention that manifests unexpectedly, that’s the implicate order becoming visible through the explicate. This is not supernatural or a coincidence. It is the normal operation of how reality actually works, seen clearly.
Two orders. One reality.
Bohm proved this mathematically through quantum physics. The implicate order isn’t mysticism, it’s the physics that explains what the explicate only model can’t.
If the implicate order is where patterns form before they manifest, and thought operates as a self perpetuating system running beneath your awareness, then the question isn’t whether you’re working in the implicate order.
You always are.
The question is whether you’re doing it consciously.
